Ameriana Bancorp operates as the holding company for Ameriana Bank and Trust, SB, a savings bank. The bank offers a line of banking services and provides a range of investments and securities products through its branches in the central Indiana area. It also offers trust and investment management services. It attracts both short-term and long-term deposits from the general public by offering an assortment of deposit accounts and interest rates, regular savings accounts, NOW accounts, money market accounts, fixed interest rate certificates with varying maturities, and negotiated rate jumbo certificates with various maturities. The bank also offers tax-deferred individual retirement, Keogh retirement, and simplified employer plan retirement accounts. Its principal lending activity includes the origination of conventional first mortgage loans secured by residential property, commercial real estate, equity lines of credit, and consumer loans. The bank also invests in various federal and government agency obligations and other investment securities permitted by applicable laws and regulations, including mortgage-backed, municipal, and equity securities. As of December 31, 2003, the bank operated through its main office in New Castle, Indiana; and through 10 Indiana branch offices located in New Castle, Middletown, Knightstown, Morristown, Greenfield, Anderson, Avon, McCordsville, and New Palestine. The bank, through its subsidiaries, also offers insurance sales from offices in New Castle, Greenfield, and Avon; and operates a brokerage facility in conjunction with Linsco/Private Ledger. The company was formed in 1989. The company has its principal executive offices located in New Castle, Indiana.
