ImmunoGen, Inc. engages in the discovery and development of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies and treatments in the field of oncology in the United States and the United Kingdom. Its lead, tumor-activated prodrug (TAP) technology uses antibodies to deliver potent cell-killing agents specifically to cancer cells. The companys TAP product candidates include huN901-DM1 and cantuzumab mertansine, which are into clinical testing. It develops huN901-DM1 for the treatment of cancers that express CD56, including small-cell lung cancer, certain hematologic malignancies, and cancers of neuroendocrine origin. Its cantuzumab mertansine is used for the treatment of cancers, including colorectal, pancreatic, gastric, other abdominal cancers, and various nonsmall-cell lung cancers. The company also develops other types of therapeutics, such as naked antibody anticancer product. In addition, the company has additional compounds that are in the preclinical stage, licensed to Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., including huMy9-6-DM1 for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia; anti-IGF-IR antibody; and a compound for the treatment of B-cell malignancies, including nonHodgkins lymphoma. ImmunoGen has collaborative partnerships with Abgenix, Inc., Biogen Idec, Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH, Genentech, Inc., and Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The company was organized in 1981 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
