American Capital Strategies, Ltd. (Nasdaq: ACAS) is a publicly traded buyout and mezzanine fund with capital resources exceeding $5.2 billion. American Capital has three main lines of business: a financial partner in management and employee buyouts; provider of senior debt, mezzanine, and equity financing for buyouts led by private equity firms; and provider of capital directly to private and small public companies. ACAS generally invest up to $150 million in each transaction and, since its August 1997 IPO, has invested approximately $5 billion in nearly 150 portfolio companies. Its portfolio companies include services, transportation, construction, wholesale, retail, health care and industrial, consumer, chemical, and food products. ACAS has over 100 investment professionals in seven offices in the U.S. and one office in Europe. ACAS's wholly owned subsidiary, American Capital Financial Services, Inc., provides financial advisory services to its portfolio companies. American Capital Strategies was incorporated in 1986 and is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland.
