Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited engages in the production of gold in northwestern Quebec, as well as in the exploration and development of mineral properties for silver, zinc, and copper in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The companys LaRonde division owns and operates LaRonde Mine, as well as El Coco and Terrex properties. The LaRonde Mine is situated approximately 35 miles west of the City of Val d'Or in northwestern Quebec. As of December 31, 2004, this division had proven and probable mineral reserves of approximately 5.1 million ounces of contained gold. Its Regional Development division focuses on the development and management of projects in the Abitibi region. The companys Exploration division focuses on exploration activities primarily on the identification of new mineral reserve, mineral resource, and development in the proven producing regions of Canada, with an emphasis on northwestern Quebec. It manages exploration on 56 properties in central and eastern Canada, and the western United States. In addition, the company has interests in Lapa project, which is located approximately seven miles east of the LaRonde Mine near Cadillac, Quebec; Goldex property, located in Val d'Or, Quebec; and Bousquet property, which is located west of the LaRonde property. Further, it has interests in Ellison property, which is located west of the Bousquet property; Eagle Mine and Telbel Mine, located in Joutel Township, Quebec; and Vezza project located in Quebec. Agnico-Eagle Mines was founded in 1972 and is based in Toronto, Canada.
