Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. operates in the industrial gas and related industrial process equipment business worldwide. It operates in three business segments: Gases, Chemicals, and Equipment. The Gases segment recovers and distributes industrial gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, synthesis gas, helium, and various medical and specialty gases. This segment also includes the companys electronics business, global healthcare, power generation, and flue gas treatment businesses. The Chemicals segment offers performance polymers, such as water-based and water-soluble emulsion products; performance solutions, such as acetylenic alcohols and amines that are used as performance additives in coatings, lubricants, electro-deposition processes, agricultural formulations, and corrosion inhibitors; and performance products, such as polyurethane catalysts and surfactants that are used as performance control additives and processing aids in the production of polyurethane foam. The Equipment segment designs and manufactures equipment for cryogenic air separation, gas processing, natural gas liquefaction, and hydrogen purification; cryogenic transportation containers for liquid helium and hydrogen; and systems for recovering hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and low dew point gases using membrane technology. The company serves chemical process, electronics, basic steel, oil, power generation, food, and institutional healthcare industries. Air Products and Chemicals was founded by Leonard P. Pool in 1940 and is headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
