Arch Chemicals, Inc. engages in the manufacture and sale of specialty chemicals worldwide. The company operates in two segments, Treatment Products and Performance Products. The Treatment Products segment manufactures and sells water treatment chemicals; biocides and personal care specialty ingredients; and wood treatment and industrial coatings chemicals. The water treatment chemicals and equipment are used for the sanitization and treatment of residential and commercial pool and spa water, drinking water, and water used in industrial applications. The biocides products control the growth of dandruff on the scalp, as well as micro-organisms, particularly fungi and algae. The wood treatment products protect wood against moisture, fungal decay or termites, and other insects. It sells its wood treatment products primarily to saw mills and treaters of softwoods. The company also manufactures and sells industrial coatings for a various applications for wood and other materials. The Performance Products segment manufactures and sells urethane intermediate products. Its urethane products include flexible polyols, specialty polyols, urethane systems, and glycols and glycol ethers. The company also supplies hydrazine hydrates and hydrazine derivatives for use in chemical blowing agents, water treatment chemicals, agricultural products, pharmaceutical intermediates, and other chemical products, as well as fuel in satellites, expendable launch vehicles, and auxiliary and emergency power units. It serves pool and spa retailers, consumer product companies, furniture manufacturers, chemical and equipment distributors, wood treaters, sawmills, and other chemical manufacturers, as well as the U.S. Government. Arch Chemicals was organized in 1998 and is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut.
