Advantest Corporation engages in the manufacturing and sale of electronic measuring instruments, automatic test equipment, and electron beam lithography systems. It operates in three segments: Semiconductor and Component Test System; Mechatronics System; and Services, Support, and Others. The Semiconductor and Component Test System segment provides customers with test system products for the semiconductor industry and the electronic parts industry. Its product lines include memory testers; system-on-a-chip testers; application-specific semiconductor testers; and measuring instrument products, such as wireless communications and fiber optic equipment, and digital consumer products. The Mechatronics System segment focuses on peripheral devices to the semiconductor test systems. It includes test handlers used in factory automation, and device interfaces that serve as interfaces with the devices that are measured and operations related to nano-technology. The Services, Support, and Others segment consists of comprehensive customer solutions, support services, and equipment lease business. The companys customers include semiconductor device manufacturers, various foundries, and test houses, as well as an array of manufacturers and service providers in the communications and electronics industries. It offers products in Asia, North America, and Europe, in addition to Japan. The company was established in 1954 as Takeda Riken Industry Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Advantest Corporation in 1985. Advantest is based in Tokyo, Japan.
