The company operates in two segments, Video and Film Editing and Effects (Video), and Audio. The Video segment offers digital, nonlinear video and film editing systems, and three dimensional and special-effects software that enable users to manipulate moving pictures and sound. It also offers digital nonlinear accelerator products; uncompressed high-definition (HD) and standard-definition solutions; 8 or 10 bit HD encoding format; news production and editing systems; broadcast video server; newsroom automation solutions; and media network solution. The Audio segment offers digital audio software applications and hardware systems for music, film, television, video, broadcast, streaming media, and Web development. Its systems are based on proprietary audio hardware, software, and control surfaces, and enable users to record, edit, mix, process, and master audio in an integrated manner. This segments products include digital audio production systems for recording engineers, mixers, film sound editors, sound designers, live sound engineers, and other audio professionals; and consumer products, such as PCI cards, peripherals, USB keyboards and interfaces, microphones, speakers, and sound libraries. The company also provides network, storage, and database solutions based on its Avid Unity MediaNetwork technology, which enables users to simultaneously share and manage media assets throughout a project or organization. In addition, Avid Technology offers a technology for playback directly to air for broadcast television applications and products that enable customers to distribute media over multiple platforms, including air, cable, or satellite, or through the Internet. It also provides software and application support services; financing, outsourcing, and education services; and consulting and professional services, including on air assistance, project management, and on site rehersal. Avid Technology was founded by William J. Warner in 1987 and is headquartered in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
