It manufactures a line of multi layered ceramic and tantalum capacitors in various sizes and configurations. Tantalum and ceramic capacitors are used in conjunction with integrated circuits and are suited for applications requiring low to medium capacitance values. Its passive electronic components include film capacitors, voltage power capacitors, varistors, and non-linear resistors. The company also manufactures and sells electronic connectors, and distributes and sells certain electronic connectors manufactured by Kyocera Corporation of Japan. The company sells its products to customers in an array of industries, such as telecommunications, information technology hardware, automotive electronics, medical devices and instrumentation, industrial instrumentation, military and aerospace electronic systems, and consumer electronics. Its customers include original equipment manufacturers, independent electronic component distributors, and contract equipment manufacturers. AVX has its principal executive offices in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. AVX Corporation is approximately 70% owned by Kyocera Corporation, as of June 1, 2004.
