Best Buy Co., Inc. retails consumer electronics, home-office products, entertainment software, appliances, and related services. It operates retail stores and/or commercial Web sites under the various brand names, such as Best Buy, Future Shop, Magnolia Audio Video, and Geek Squad, as well as an outlet store on eBay. The companys United States Best Buy stores and the International stores offer video products that include televisions, digital cameras, DVD players, digital camcorders, and digital broadcast satellite systems; audio products comprising car stereos, shelf systems and speakers, home theater audio systems, portable audio equipment, audio components, and mobile electronics; home products consisting of desktop and notebook computers and related peripheral equipment, telephones, cellular telephones, and MP3 players; entertainment software products, including DVD movies, video game hardware and software, compact discs, and computer software; and appliances, such as vacuums, small electrics, and housewares. Magnolia Audio Video stores offer video products and audio products, including home receivers and amplifiers, as well as furniture, telephones, and wireless communication devices. As of July 15, 2004, the company had 619 United States Best Buy stores and 22 Magnolia Audio Video stores in the United States, and 109 Future Shop stores and 19 Canadian Best Buy stores internationally. Best Buy Co. was founded by Richard Schulze in 1966 as Sound of Music, Inc., and changed its name to Best Buy Co., Inc. in 1983. The company is based in Richfield, Minnesota.
