BJs Wholesale Club, Inc. operates as a wholesale club chain in the eastern United States. It provides a range of food categories at its stores, such as frozen foods, fresh meat and dairy products, beverages, dry grocery items, fresh produce and flowers, canned goods, and household paper products. The company also offers a line of prepared foods under the Wellsley Farms label. BJ's Wholesale Clubs general merchandise includes office supplies and equipment, consumer electronics, prerecorded media, small appliances, auto accessories, tires, jewelry, health and beauty aids, household needs, computer software, books, greeting cards, apparel, tools, toys, and seasonal items. It also offers various specialty services that include full service optical stores; food courts, some of which offer brand name fast food service; communications centers for Internet access, cellular phones, and wireless needs; onsite photo service; BJs Vacations; a selection of garden sheds; patios and sunrooms; a propane tank filling service; and muffler and brake services. As of June 3, 2004, the company operated 150 clubs and 78 gas stations. BJ's Wholesale Clubs customers are primarily from individual households and small businesses. The company was previously a wholly owned subsidiary of Waban, Inc. and became a separate and independent public entity in 1997 when Waban spun-off to its stockholders all of the companys outstanding common stock. BJ's Wholesale Club has its principal executive offices in Natick, Massachusetts.
