The Exploration and Production segment engages in crude oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production, management of crude oil and natural gas pipelines, processing and export terminals, and LNG processing facilities. As of December 31, 2003, the companys total hydrocarbon proved reserves comprised 18,361 million barrels of oil equivalent. It engages in the processing, fractionation, and marketing of ethane, propane, butanes, and pentanes extracted from natural gas. The company also develops, produces, and markets solar panels and wind farms. Its other activities include gas fired power generation projects. BP also engages in supplying, trading, refining, marketing, and transporting crude oil and petroleum products to wholesale and retail customers. The Petrochemicals segment produces chemicals and plastics through subsidiaries, joint ventures, and associated undertakings. It engages in the supply, marketing, and distribution of chemical products to bulk, wholesale, and retail customers. The company produces aromatics and acetyls, comprising PTA, PX, and acetic acid, and olefins and derivatives comprising ethylene and related co products, polypropylene, high density polyethylene, and acrylonitrile. These products are used in the manufacture of various consumer goods, including plastic drinks bottles, computer housings, adhesives, inks, rigid packaging, pipes, food packaging, and automobile components, as well as textiles for clothes and carpets. BP was formed in 1909 and is headquartered in London.
