Cabot Microelectronics Corporation supplies polishing slurries used in the manufacture of integrated circuit (IC) devices for the semiconductor industry worldwide. Its products are used in a polishing process called chemical mechanical planarization (CMP). CMP is used by IC device manufacturers to planarize multiple layers of material that are built upon silicon wafers, to produce advanced devices. The companys CMP products are also used in other applications, such as polishing insulating layers; the tungsten plugs that go through the insulating layers and connect the multiple wiring layers of IC devices; and copper wiring. Cabot Microelectronics also offers CMP slurries for polishing certain components in hard disk drives, specifically rigid disk substrates and magnetic heads. The company has a strategic alliance with NanoProducts Corporation. Cabot Microelectronics was founded by William P. Noglows. The company is headquartered in Aurora, Illinois.
