Casella Waste Systems, Inc. provides collection, transfer, disposal, and recycling services to residential, industrial, and commercial customers, primarily in the northeastern United States. The company markets recyclable metals, aluminum, plastics, paper, and corrugated cardboard, which have been processed at its facilities, as well as recyclables purchased from third parties. It also generates and sells electricity under a long-term contract at a waste-to-energy facility, Maine Energy Recovery Company LP. As of June 14, 2004, the company owned and/or operated 8 Subtitle D landfills, 2 landfills permitted to accept construction and demolition materials, 37 solid waste collection operations, 34 transfer stations, 39 recycling facilities, 1 waste-to-energy facility, and a 50% interest in a joint venture that manufactures, markets, and sells cellulose insulation made from recycled fiber. Casella Waste Systems was founded in 1975 and is headquartered in Rutland, Vermont.
