Diageo plc engages in a range of activities in the beverage alcohol industry worldwide. Its operations include producing, distilling, brewing, bottling, packaging, distributing, developing, and marketing a range of spirits, beers, and wine brands in approximately 180 territories. Diageo markets its products through three units: Diageo GB, including spirits, beer, and ready to drink; Percy Fox & Co, including wines; and Justerini & Brooks Retail, such as private client wines. Its products are distributed through independent wholesalers and directly to the grocers, convenience, and stores. In addition, Diageo owns an equity investment of 21% in General Mills, Inc., a global consumer foods company that manufactures and distributes food products operating primarily in the United States. The principal businesses owned by General Mills include Big G ready-to-eat cereals, Betty Crocker dessert, baking, dinner mix and snack products, Yoplait and Colombo yoghurt, Old El Paso Mexican foods, Progresso soup, Green Giant vegetables, and a foodservice business. The company was formed in 1997 as Guinness PLC and was subsequently renamed as Diageo plc. Diageo is based in London.
