EMC Corporation offers a range of systems, softwares, services, and solutions for information lifecycle management worldwide. It operates in four segments: EMC Information Storage Products (ISP), EMC Software Group Products and Services (SGPS), EMC Information Storage and Management Services (ISMS), and VMware Software Products and Services (VSPS). ISP segment consists of information storage systems (ISS) and platform-based software. ISS offers a range of networked information storage systems used in a storage area network, networked attached storage, content addressed storage, or direct attached storage environment. ISPs platform-based software controls and enables functions that take place within the EMC networked storage system. SGPS segment develops platform-independent storage management software, which simplifies, automates, protects, and manages multivendor storage infrastructures; and content management software, enabling users to create, manage, deliver, and archive unstructured content, including documents, email, Web pages, records, and media. ISMS segment offers technology solutions, customer service, and customer education to help its customers plan, build, and manage integrated information technology infrastructures throughout its lifecycle. This segment also provides consulting, assessments, implementations, integration, operations management, day-to-day support, maintenance, education, and training to its customers. VSPS segments software provides a layer of abstraction between the computing, storage, and networking hardware, as well as the software that runs on it. EMC distributes and markets its products through various distributors, systems integrators, resellers, and original equipment manufacturer hardware vendors for information storage and management, and the virtualization infrastructure software markets in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, and the Asia Pacific region. The companys products and services are used in various computing platforms, storage systems, and software applications, including transaction processing, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, data warehousing, electronic commerce, content management, business intelligence, email, and Web hosting.
