Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (ESI), along with its subsidiaries, provides manufacturing equipment to the global electronics market. The company supplies laser systems used to improve the production yield of semiconductor devices, high speed test and termination equipment used in the high volume production of multi layer ceramic passives and other passive electronic components, and laser systems used to fine tune electronic components and circuitry. ESI also produces laser drilling systems for production of high density interconnect circuit boards and advanced semiconductor packaging, as well as passive component inspection systems and original equipment manufacturer machine vision products. The companys customers mainly include manufacturers of semiconductors, passive electronic components, and electronic interconnect devices. ESI mainly competes with GSI Lumonics, Tokyo Weld, Kanebo, NEC, Humo, Hitachi Via Mechanics, Mitsubishi Electric, and Sumitomo.
