Exelon Corporation, through its subsidiaries, operates as an electric utility company. It has three segments: Energy Delivery, Generation, and Enterprises. The Energy Delivery segment engages principally in the purchase, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to residential, commercial, industrial, and wholesale customers in northern Illinois, southeastern Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania counties. Its Generation segment consists of the owned and contracted for electric generating facilities and energy marketing operations of Exelon Generation Company, LLC; a 50% interest in Sithe Energies, Inc.; and a retail sales business of Exelon Energy Company. Exelon’s Enterprise segment engages in the design, installation, and servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning facilities for commercial and industrial customers throughout the midwest. It provides energy-related services, including performance contracting and energy management systems. In addition, it offers retail electric and gas services in Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other areas in the midwest and northeast United States; district cooling and related services to offices and other buildings in the central business district of Chicago and in other cities in North America; and local and long-distance, point-to-point voice and data communications, Internet access, and enhanced data services for businesses and institutions in eastern Pennsylvania. As of August 10, 2004, Exelon distributed electricity to approximately 5.1 million customers in northern Illinois and Pennsylvania, and gas to approximately 460,000 customers in the Philadelphia area. The company was incorporated in 1999 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
