The company focuses on the application of digital fiber optics, to provide a line of optical subsystems for data networking and storage equipment manufacturers. These optical subsystems support a range of network applications, transmission speeds, distances, physical mediums, and configurations. Finisar's network performance test and monitoring systems are provided to original equipment manufacturers for testing and validating equipment designs; and to operators of networking and storage data centers for testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting the performance of their systems. Finisar sells products through a direct sales force, a network of independent manufacturers' representatives, and international resellers. The company was founded by Frank H. Levinson in 1987 and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
