The New Germany Fund, Inc. (NGF) operates as a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company. It invests primarily in the Mittelstand, a group of small and mid-cap German companies. The fund invests approximately 35% of its assets in large cap German companies, and approximately 20% in other western European companies. Its portfolio of investments span wholesale drugs proprietaries and druggists sundries, wholesale computer and peripheral equipment and software, electronic computers, general industrial machinery and equipment, life insurance, electromedical and electrotherapeutic apparatus. The funds investments also span insurance agents, brokers, and services; information retrieval services; pharmaceutical preparations; cement; medical, dental, and hospital equipment; guided missiles and space vehicles; rubber and plastic footwear; special industry machinery; and national commercial banks sectors. Deutsche Investment Management Americas Inc. serves as the manager of the fund. The fund was incorporated in Maryland in 1990 and is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
