Harmonic, Inc. engages in the design, manufacture, and sale of digital video systems and fiber optic systems to cable television and direct broadcast satellite operators, and telephone companies worldwide. The company operates in two groups, Convergent Systems and Broadband Access Networks. The Convergent Systems group offers encoders, which provide compression of video, audio, and data channels; server gateway, which interfaces with the output from a video server and integrates routing, multiplexing, and modulation into a single package for the delivery of VOD services to subscribers over cable networks; MPEG-2 networking, switching, and multiplexing platform; and broadcast network gateway, which provides digital turnaround and remote modulation capability. It also offers digital turnaround system, a modular platform for aggregating, multiplexing, and scrambling digital signals prior to transmission over broadband networks, and control and automation products. The Broadband Access Networks group offers MAXLink transmitters and optical amplifiers, PWRLink transmitters and dense wave division multiplexing, and coarse wave division multiplexing systems for optical transmission requirements. It also offers optical nodes, and return path transmitters and receivers to provide two-way transmission capability, and NETWatch management system, which consists of transponders and network management software. Its systems enable network operators to provide various interactive digital services that include digital video, video-on-demand, high definition television, high-speed Internet access, and telephony. Harmonic was incorporated in 1988 and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
