National Fuel Gas Company (NFG), through its subsidiaries, operates as a diversified energy company in the United States. The company operates in six segments: Utility, Pipeline and Storage, Exploration and Production, International, Energy Marketing, and Timber. The Utility segment sells natural gas and provides natural gas transportation services to customers through a local distribution system located in western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. The companys Pipeline and Storage segment provides interstate natural gas transportation and storage services for affiliated and nonaffiliated companies through an integrated gas pipeline system and 28 underground natural gas storage fields, as well as 4 other underground natural gas storage fields. It also transports natural gas for large industrial customers and power producers in New York. NFGs Exploration and Production segment engages in the exploration and development of natural gas and oil reserves in California; in the Appalachian region of the United States; and in the Gulf Coast region of Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. It also conducts its operations in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia in Canada. International segment engages in foreign and domestic energy projects through investments as a sole or substantial owner in various business entities. The Energy Marketing segment markets natural gas to industrial, commercial, public authority, and residential end-users in western and central New York, and northwestern Pennsylvania. It also offers energy and energy management services for its customers. NFGs Timber segment markets timber, primarily hardwoods, from its New York and Pennsylvania land holdings. As of September 30, 2004, it owned and managed approximately 87,000 acres of timber property. National Fuel Gas Company was organized in 1902 and is headquartered in Williamsville, New York.
