The company completed enrollment in a Phase I Cotara clinical trial for the treatment of colorectal carcinoma and received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat brain cancer, as of September 1, 2004. In addition, a TNT-based agent similar to Cotara was developed under a licensing agreement in China and approved for the treatment of advanced lung cancer, as of the above date. Avid Bioservices, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, develops and manufactures monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins to support Phase I through Phase III clinical trials for biotechnology companies. Peregrine Pharmaceuticals collaborated with Affitech AS to produce fully human monoclonal antibodies. The company was founded in 1981 as Techniclone International Corporation and changed its name to Techniclone Corporation in 1997. Further, the company changed its name to Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2000. The company is based in Tustin, California.
