Shaw Communications, Inc. provides cable television, Internet, and satellite services in the United States and Canada. It also offers Internet access and Internet infrastructure services, direct-to-home satellite services, and satellite distribution services. The company operated through three segments: Cable, DTH (Star Choice), and Satellite Services. The Cable segment offers cable television, Internet, and Big Pipe operations that provide Internet and data connectivity services to large businesses and other organizations. The DTH (Star Choice) segment distributes digital video and audio programming services through DTH satellite to Canadian residences and commercial establishments. The Satellite Services segment redistributes television and radio signals through satellite to cable operators and other multichannel system operators; provides uplink and network management services for conventional and specialty broadcasters on a contract basis; and offers mobile tracking and messaging services to various companies. The company was incorporated in 1984 under the name Capital Cable Television Co. Ltd. It changed its name to Shaw Cablesystems Ltd. in 1984; and to Shaw Communications Inc. in 1993. Shaw Communications is based in Calgary, Canada.
