The company offers health insurance products, which comprise medicare supplement, cancer, and other supplemental health policies. The medicare supplement policies are offered on both an individual and group basis, which provide reimbursement for certain expenses not covered by the federal medicare program. The cancer policies are designed to fill gaps in existing medical coverage. Its benefits are triggered by a diagnosis of cancer or health-related events, or medical expenses related to the treatment of cancer. The other health policies include accident, long-term care, and limited-benefit hospital and surgical coverages. Torchmarks annuity products consist of single-premium deferred annuities, flexible-premium deferred annuities, and variable annuities. It invests in investment grade securities. The company distributes its insurance products through sales by direct response, exclusive agents, and independent agents. Torchmark was incorporated in 1979. It was formerly known as Liberty National Insurance Holding Company and changed its name to Torchmark Corporation in 1982. The company is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.
