Thomson S.A. provides video and enabling technologies, systems, finished products, and services to customers and professionals in the entertainment and media industries primarily in the Americas, Asia, and Europe. The company operates in four segments: Content and Networks, Components, Consumer Products, and Licensing. The Content and Networks segment engages in the video content preparation and distribution activities under the Technicolor trademark, which include post-production, media asset management, and replication and distribution of films, digital versatile disks, and video home system cassettes. It also engages in the screen-advertising businesses, Screenvision; offers broadcast and network equipment, and services under GVG trademark; and develops technologies and products for broadband and telecommunication networks to deliver digital entertainment and data to consumers and businesses, which include decoders and modems. The Components segment produces and sells television tubes, other display devices, optical components, and television and video components. The Consumer Products segment offers television sets, audio and video products, accessories, and home telephony products. The Licensing segment manages, develops, and provides third-parties licensing services for other industrial companies. Thomson also offers security, user interface, imaging, and networking software services, and mobile high definition television broadcasting equipment and set-top boxes. The company, formerly known as Thomson multimedia S.A., was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, France.
